About Camp Campbell
Camp Campbell is located in the heart of the redwoods, where adventure begins. Your child will experience resident camp at its very best! Campers will make new friends, gain self esteem and most of all have FUN! Camp Campbell is a nationally recognized YMCA resident camp that has completed the rigorous requirements for accreditation by the American Camping Association.

Facilities
Camp Campbell's natural setting includes hiking trails, playing fields, a swimming pool, archery ranges, basketball and volleyball courts, nature and crafts centers, outdoor chapel, a campfire, performing arts center, a low-ropes and high-ropes challenge course, a climbing wall, warm, cozy cabins and the San Lorenzo River which provides river hiking and exploration.

Health & Safety
Camp Campbell is dedicated to the health and safety of your camper. We have an on-site Health Officer on call 24 hours a day. Campers must have verification of having received a medical examination at least 24 months prior to camp.

Staff SafetyProgram
We emphasize programs designed for youth entering grades 2-12. Progressive programming is built into our camping programs so we have specialized activities to meet the needs of all our campers. Our programs are planned and implemented to ensure quality and safety.

About Camp CampbellLeadership- The YMCA staff
At YMCA Camp Campbell we believe that the heart of camp is in the cabin group. Our strongest asset is our dedicated, caring staff. The staff will empower campers to learn about the world in which they live, develop interpersonal skills, enhance self-esteem, learn about the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, and have the time of their lives. Our qualified, enthusiastic staff undergo an intense training to supplement their skills and experience in working with young people. All staff are certified in First Aid and CPR. We maintain camper to staff ratios in compliance with the American Camping Association.

Mini Camp

This three-day/two-night camp is an opportunity for a first-time resident camp experience. A low 5:1 camper to staff ratio provides each child the caring, individual attention necessary to succeed in being away from home, while having the time of their lives!

Limited to 18 campers per session, Mini Camp activities include swimming, climbing tower, cable slide, evening campfires, songs, skits and even a teddy bears’ picnic.

Parents can track the activities of the mini campers by viewing the photos that are uploaded daily. Information and access codes are given out on the first day of camp.

As they progress to a new level of camping, Trekkers experience their favorite traditional camp activities (swimming, archery, crafts, sports, climbing wall, campfires, overnight under the stars), but they add their choice of a skill activity each afternoon. Choices often include camp video news, basketball, soccer, cricket or yoga. Trekkers explore integrity, honesty and trust while building self-esteem and self-confidence. Nightly “raps” give Trekkers the opportunity to focus on
learning from the day’s events.

Note: Ratio is 10:1 campers to staff. Trekkers are welcome to bring props and clothing that mesh with weekly themes for the Wednesday night dance (a favorite of all).

At this first level of a week-long camping experience, Trailblazers participate in most traditional camp activities, including swimming, archery, crafts, sports, climbing wall, drama, campfires and an overnight under the stars. With our 8:1 camper to counselor ratio, we provide a safety-conscious setting that fosters respect for self, others and the environment. Trailblazer staff are dedicated to helping campers make new friends and creating a sense of belonging among the cabin group
members. They will assist campers to develop the essential skills of teamwork, responsibility, honesty and caring, that will help them be successful at camp and upon their return to home and school.

This in-camp experience allows teen campers to work on creating a positive self image, strength of character, and confidence. Teens participate in all the traditional camp activities as well as teen only good times. This fun engaging week concludes with an introductory backpacking trip from Big Basin State Park to the Sea. Our Teen Camp staff are among the best in planning a great experience and building on individual strengths as well as teaching the beginnings of leadership development.

A great “next step” for teens that have experienced camp before and are ready to try a wide variety of adventures! Through this 12 day, off-site camp, teens take on the world with a new adventure everyday. By challenging each other and themselves, teens learn to get along with all types of people and how to adapt to new situations. Adventure activities may include and are not limited to: kayaking/canoeing, backpacking, white water rafting, climbing and bouldering. Camping under the stars, camp fires, and group bonding are sure to make this summer one of the best experiences of a life time!

A fabulous opportunity to move from the redwoods to camp under the stars at one of our beautiful local beaches! Campers will explore and learn about the local Big Sur area and their beaches. They will enjoy campfires and fun activities at the beach. Teen Beach campers form a cohesive team by working together towards common goals. They examine environmental and community responsibility, volunteerism and cooperation. Nightly “raps” focus on the development of the individuals and helping them find their niche in the bigger picture. This program can be life changing.

This exciting new camp will allow campers the opportunity to learn about the environment while learning basic sailing skills. The week long adventure will allow a minimum of 3 days on the ocean, learning about local ecology and basic sailing practices. Collaborating with a sailing organization with over 15 years experience, all campers are sure to have a safe exciting adventure.

Camping outdoors, preparing meals, participating in daily activities and, of course, sailing provide an excellent opportunity to meet new friends and work as a team. All campers are sure to have an experience of a lifetime!

SKATE Camp

YMCA Camp Campbell, Element Skateboards and YMCA Camp Millwood join efforts to provide one of the finest skate camps on the West Coast! Campers will travel by coach bus to YMCA Camp Millwood on beautiful Sequoia Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Skate instruction, ‘zine-making, Professor Schmitt’s board-making factory, campfires, swimming, kayaking and camp fun highlight this new, dynamic program.

SURF’S UP! This camp is specifically geared for surf beginners. Daily surf lessons (4 days) are held at Club Ed’s Surf School at Manresa State Beach (Santa Cruz). Instructors focus on surfing fundamentals, water safety and basic surfing skills. Two nights at YMCA Camp Campbell participating in all camp activities and three nights camping at Manresa State Beach. Space is

3-Day Surf Camp

Have you always wanted to learn how to surf? Three days of surfing instruction combined with camping along the coast of Santa Cruz create the summer memory of a lifetime. Campfires on the beach, wholesome cooking around a campfire, fantastic staff role models and the beauty of the California Coast highlight this camping adventure. Space is limited!

Lake Tahoe KayakLake Tahoe Kayak
Entering grades: 8-10
Dates: August 10-15

Open water kayaking and camping in the beauty of Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Bay. Accompanied by experienced kayaking/wilderness staff, campers learn techniques of self-rescue and proper paddling by day, while enjoying campfires and camping under the stars at night. Participants will kayak 4-8 miles daily and will explore much of the Southwest shore of Lake Tahoe, including beautiful Emerald Bay. Spend a week at one of Nothern California’s most spectacular places!Participants must be strong swimmers.

3-Day Kayaking Camp3-Day Kayak Camp
Entering grades: 6-7
Dates: June 29-July 1

This three-day program includes kayaking and camping on the Central California Coast. During the day, campers will be busy exploring Elkhorn Slough by kayak. Campers will cook, engage in learning circles and have fun with evening activities, while camping at one of the Santa Cruz State beaches. Space is limited – sign-up early!



LEADERSHIP CAMPS:

LITsWilderness Leadership Camp
Entering grades: 10

This new in-camp leadership training is YMCA Camp Campbell’s most challenging and rewarding opportunity as a teen camper. Arrive at camp, meet your team, and begin a week long journey of wilderness survival. Under the care and supervision of some of our best staff, participants learn to work as a team, care for each other, and become successful, efficient leaders. Days are spent outside learning wilderness survival skills, backpacking, hiking, cooking, exploring, and making positive choices as a group. Take these skills home and learn to be an everyday leader.

Note: Participants go home on Fridays and return to camp on Sundays.

Camp Campbell is looking for the next generation of camp staff. All new four week program! Spend the first two weeks learning, hands-on, the formula for becoming great leaders for our younger campers. Training includes child development, CPR/First Aid, child abuse prevention, and the ins and outs of planning amazing opportunities for campers. CITs spend this time getting to know each other and a better understanding of their own personal leadership qualities. The third week is spent working side by side with Camp Campbell directors and Senior Leaders assisting with a cabin group. CITs will help plan activities, assist with events, games and play a direct role working with a cabin group. Week four-reward time! This final week is spent hiking, camping, exploring, volunteering, and enjoying Yosemite National Park.
